Furniture Container Shipping from China

Furniture and home furnishings are a focus within our wider China-origin FCL service to the U.S. and Canada. For moisture-sensitive goods, agree on packing details, requirements for the empty container and who can act if a unit is unsuitable.

Packing and receiving

Start with packing details.

Share the commodity and materials, carton or pallet counts, dimensions, gross weight and total CBM. Include the factory location, cargo ready date and expected container type and quantity.

If a loading plan is available, send it with the handling or stacking instructions. Confirm how the receiving warehouse expects the cargo to arrive before you fix the loading arrangement.

Container condition

Set the requirements before collection.

Tell the factory and trucking party that the cargo needs a dry, clean interior, free from persistent odours and defects that affect loading. A carrier’s cargo-worthy assessment and a factory’s requirements can differ.

Checks and records
Agree who checks the empty at the depot and again at the factory, and who receives the photographs and video.
Stop and escalate
Decide who stops loading and contacts the forwarder or trucking party when the condition is unsuitable.
Replacement authority
Confirm who can approve another empty and the related charges before the truck is dispatched.

Requested inspection, selection or replacement services and their charges need to be agreed in advance. Equipment availability and carrier or depot handling are confirmed for the shipment.

A wet container at the factory: the cost of checking too late

A 40-foot high-cube container arrived for a shipment of sofas and home furnishings with water droplets inside. Wiping, waiting, a return trip and a paid replacement followed. For importers, the lesson is practical: agree on container condition before collection, because resolving it at the factory can cost more than the replacement fee.
